Hi can someone help me with that please:
The Frequentist method of hypothesis testing using the p-value was proposed by R. A. Fisher in the 1920's and is the main tool of research hypothesis testing used today. As we have learned, the idea is to make a claim about a Null Hypothesis and then test it with data.
An alternative approach to hypothesis that is being increasingly embraced in the statistics community is called the Bayesian. In Bayesian Statistics you start with some prior probability that your claim or belief is true, and then let the data adjust the probability of your claim.
To improve its search-and-rescue efforts, the U.S. Coast Guard has developed a system that uses Bayesian inference, a mathematical concept that dates back to the 18th century. The Search and Rescue Optimal Planning System (SAROPS) uses a mathematical approach to calculate probabilities of where a floating person or object might be based on changing ocean currents, wind direction, or other new information.
Watch this video on SAROPS from the PBS NOVA episodeBy the Numbersand then comment on this Bayesian approach.
