CASE STUDY - OZZ Tours:
Who is OZZ Tours?
Ozz Tours is a large Australian inbound tour operator based in Sydney. It organises tours from Sydney to all parts of Australia.
The tours include:
coach tours of up to 50 people with tour guides
combined air and coach tours
self-drive package holidays (air, accommodation and rental car) in Australia for the more independent tourists.
Ozz Tours' customers:
Ozz Tours obtains its customers from a variety of sources such as local and overseas travel agents, corporate group tours, travel clubs and direct retail customers.
Segments of client base:
Ozz Tours knows a bit about market segmentation. They have identified three key segments among their client base:
Empty nesters (50-64 years, not retired but travel without children)
Families (age not specified but with children from five-16 years old)
Experienced young travellers (20-30 years old, travelling without children).
The definitions of the segments are flexible.
Project overview
You work for Out There Marketing who has been commissioned by Ozz Tours to conduct market research to find out more about the tourism market and trends. They want this information to increase their business and to better target their marketing mix activities.
Specifically they want to know about:
the travel preferences of potential customers
their profile
buying behaviour
accommodation preferences
length of tour
how these customers can be reached
other information which may be useful to develop or refine the product, pricing, promotion and distribution components in its marketing strategy. (Note: this is the part where we assess the value you will contribute to your client; so add in what else you think will contribute to your client's project.)
I AM STUCK ON PART 2 SO THE FOLLOWING!!!!
Task 2
Primary research:
a) Questionnaire design
Choose national (not international) tourists as the focus of your research. (We'll assume that another employee of Out There Marketing will undertake the research for the groups you have not chosen.)
Choose ONE of the segments to research from those already identified by Ozz Tours, that is, one of:
- Empty nesters (50-64 years, not retired but travel without children)
- Families (age not specified but with children from 5-16 years old)
- Experienced young travellers (20-30 years old, travelling without children).
You are now required to research the preferences of the segment you have selected for the following types of holiday experiences:
outback
- resort
- city life
- indulgence
- events
- great Aussie journeys (trains, coaches or air charters)
- adventure.
Your task is to plan and develop a questionnaire to conduct a survey of this segment. At least 12 questions must be developed and include at least one example of each of the following:
- A closed response question
- An open response question
- A Likert scale question
(It is important that you read your text or other sources on wording questions, question sequence and questionnaire layout. Remember that the questionnaire needs to take into account the delivery method, for example, face-to-face, telephone, internet or e-mail).
b) Questionnaire testing
Once you have developed the questionnaire select five (5) people who are in your target market and have them complete the questionnaire.
Write brief report on any changes that these people recommended you make to the questionnaire.
Incorporate these changes into your questionnaire.
You must submit a copy of both the original and tested questionnaires with your assignment.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCED :)
