A source of discovery What Anger Is A natural response to some things that may happen to us; often we cannot immediately discover what is behind the anger but the fact that we respond with anger puts us in touch with the fact that something is wrong at the time. If a person can learn to trust the feeling of anger and express the feeling respectfully, he/she may be able to identify what the anger is about and the primary feelings behind it. Anger is a normal and positive response to those with whom we feel the anger. It is a way to raise my self esteem by being open and direct about how I feel inside; it is taking risk; it is also a way to assert my boundaries- to let others know in what situations I become angry. Because effective anger is brief, to the point, open, and direct; you know where you stand and so does the other person; you have the opportunity to resolve the anger and the primary feelings behind it and become closer to the other person since you have taken a risk, become vulnerable, and disclosed a part of who you are. 3. A form of protection for myself and others It takes an enormous amount of energy to suppress your anger and your primary feelings; if you use all your energy suppressing your emotions, you will probably feel fatigued, bored, and uneasy.
