There used to be a nice fountain outside of Science & Research 1 made of granite and gabbro slabs. The fountain was removed a few years ago, with one of the problems being the artist who designed it was unhappy with how one of the rocks was weathering (also, skateboarders were doing a number on it and facilities couldn't keep it running). Given Houston's climate (hot and wet), and the rock types in the fountain answer the following: a. Did mechanical or chemical weathering predominate? b. Which rock was rapidly weathering, resulting in degradation of those slabs? c. Why was that rock type weathering more rapidly?
