How can I respond to the following peer post?
Contracts, such as everything else humans are involved in are forever changing. Technology and human desire for instantaneous results, I feel is a driver for companies. As consumers demand more customization, larger selection of options, faster delivery businesses evolve to meet these demands. Not only through e-commerce and RFID have businesses been able to excel the acquisition process but also kept integrity and transparency a key component, there has also been the creation of automated inventory services. The RFID trackers are typically used for tracking large things when they are shipped such as shipping containers on a cargo ship or military vehicles for deployment as well tractor trailer loads from warehouse to warehouse or warehouse to store. One step deeper is when a consumer purchases a container of name laundry detergent. For example, Tide. When it is scanned for check out, the system sends a request for more to replace what was purchased. When enough requests are received, the order is created and sent to the warehouse for fulfillment, then placed on the next truck going to that store. That is just a broad overview, there are many more steps involved. Automated inventory systems reduce the need for guessing upon the orders part about how much/when a good is being purchased and on the fulfiller's part about when a large order will come in and the ability to fill. Also, with automation comes one of the greatest things, numbers. Metrics, patterns, ebb and flow, consumer lifecycle of an item. (The automated inventory systems also account for when sales happen and couponing as those numbers are tracked as well.) With this degree of tracking, contracts are becoming more precise and automated as well. The inventory systems also work with other automated systems that do similar things like track past acquisitions. The prices, vendors, and terms of agreements are all stored and can easily be referenced for future needs. All these advancements allow for faster execution on both parties' behalf, with equal transparency for both parties. With more transparency and faster turn over rate, automation seems to be the only way to sustain the rate of contracts needed to maintain this 'instant gratification' that consumers and demand and businesses strive to fulfill.
Small businesses benefit from the advancements as owners do not have to spend as many man hours counting and ordering. Also, the role of procurement still needs to do the research and leg work but once the initial start up is done, the automation takes over. Government benefits from automation as well. The bidding process is electronic and tracking by RFID reduces the lag time in confirming receiving and processing payments. And everyone knows how the Government works slower than molasses.
