How do I approach this contract law question and answer it? I am struggling very much...
In May 2018 Maria and James, who are deeply in love, decided to marry. The wedding date was set for 3rdAugust 2019.
In preparation for the wedding, they bought a wedding dress for Maria for 9000 from the Italian designer Giorgio. It was agreed that they would pay for the dress in monthly instalments of 150over a period of five years. The payments were due on the first of each month, with the first payment due on 1stJuly 2018. On 3rdOctober 2018, Maria and James contacted Giorgio.Claiming that they were in severe financial difficulties, they asked him to reduce the remaining instalments to 100 per month, without extension of the overall payment period of five years. Giorgio, who believed that the couple were trying their best, agreed with their proposal. On 20thJanuary 2019, Jamesreceived a large legacy under his aunt's will. He did not inform Giorgio.
In February 2019, James and Maria started their search for a wedding venue. First, they decided in favour of a rustic theme in the woods. They made a contract with Amazing Tents Ltd., who, for a price of 3000, promised to hire them a wedding tent for about 100 guests. The contract stipulated that the wedding tent should be available by 19thJuly 2019, but Amazing Tents only managed to provide it by 25thJuly.Meanwhile, James and Maria had checked the weather forecast, which indicated that it might rain on their wedding day. They informed Amazing Tents that they wished to terminate their contract. Instead, they used the 3000 to book an indoor venue.
It is now 31stAugust 2019, and Maria and James have married and returned from honeymoon. They ask for your advice on the following issues:
