Before reviewing the resources in Module Ten I was not aware of what risk communication was. Risk communication is providing real-time information, advice and opinions between experts and individuals who have a threat to their health, economic, and/or social well-being (Abrams & Greenhawt, 2020). In the previously linked video it is emphasized that listening and being calm during a time of risk is extremely important (IESE Business School, 2020). This will help build trust and decrease any fears that may be present. It is also important to keep an open flow of communication, for the same reasons (IESE Business School, 2020). Understanding risk communication is important in healthcare. It will apply to my work life since I plan to work in a hospital setting and the patients will likely feel there is a threat to their health. I have learned that I must listen and communicate in a calm manner during these situations to avoid causing more fear. I have also learned that openly communicating with patients will increase trust
