How to respond to the following dq answer
Servant leadership is a new focal point within my personal experience. I have always demonstrated some of the characteristics of servant leadership but was not always consciously aware of what or how I was doing and why. Over the course of the last four weeks, there is an acute awareness of the principles I naturally practice. Fore example, I work to put my staff/clients first which is a core principle connected to servant leadership.
Within the world of therapy, I believe the therapist naturally demonstrates servant leadership principles for their clients. It's embodied in our clinical practice and ethical codes. That said, servant leadership practices could greatly benefit the profession from an administrative perspective. Servant leadership is the demonstration of putting the person or organizations needs before yourself (Greenleaf et al., 2002). The demands for mental health professionals leads to adverse symptoms and shorter professional tenures across all levels of clinical care (Cosgrave et al., 2018). Greenleaf's expectations of person first and awareness of targeted need could aid in the reduction of adverse symptoms. Furthermore, servant leaders are stewards who should grow future leaders and train their replacements (Gibb & Mason, 2019). Training future leaders cannot happen if mental health professionals depart the agencies prematurely and/or demonstrate adverse symptoms.
