How would you respond to the following paragraph? Do you agree or disagree with the information?

The main difference between the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and the Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) is that while they both test the significance of group differences between two or more means while analyzing the variations within the groups being tested, the ANCOVA also controls for a variable that may or may not have an influence on the dependent variables being analyzed (Mertler & Vannatta, 2016, p. 15). Typically, one would use an ANCOVA instead of an ANOVA when the independent variable has two or more categories, the dependent variable is identified as continuous, and the effects of the covariate or covariates require removal (Mertler & Vannatta, 2016, pp. 15-16).

An example of a research hypothesis that can tested using ANCOVA would be: A study to examine the effects of recent domestic violence survivor training and level of trauma related tension, while controlling for perceived stress levels. I have worked with domestic violence survivors and have often wondered if the offered training results in any quantifiable positive results, or if the classes are more of a "band-aid on a bullet hole" type situation.

An assumption that is unique to an ANCOVA would be the homogeneity of regression slopes. Homogeneity of regression is determining whether the relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable is different and at a different levels in relation to the independent variable or variables
