I am new to Linux and I have been reading around and I am a bit confused about crontab jobs. What are the steps to do the following task:

(I am using CentOs Unix/linux)

I want create a crontb job by using crontab e command and save the output of the cron job into a file with a timestamp . I want to be able to verify that the file ran at the correct time by checking the timestamp of the output.

Please list the steps I would take to be able to start the the creation of and cron job and how to achieve the rest of the problem.
