I don't have a family member who had lost a job. But some of my relatives work in the fields, so when the work temporary season ends they are eligible for unemployment benefits. They often go with a worker who opens a claim for them, so basically the worker helps them with the process, if they have issues with filling out the forms or if they have a problem with the claim. But there have been some times were it took a while for my family relatives to get their money deposits and they have to call very often because it takes too long for the EDD to respond to their calls. They always get the maximum weekly unemployment benefit which is calculated based on your past earnings during a specific 12-month period. But that wasn't enough to or sufficient to meet all their needs. Sometimes they had to stop their unemployment benefits to get another job before the field season started again because they were out of money
