Part 1 :
(Jose Ignzacio Lopez's Impact on the Auto Industry)
Last week, I mentioned how Ignacio Lopez had a profound impact on the global automotive industry, which endures in many ways today. I'm a big believer in the phrase, "Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it." In the case of the automotive industry, it has taken a long time to get to a point where key product attributes and the concept of "value" has seeped back into common thinking. While cost management is of course important, it is only one means to create differentiation that creates a competitive advantage.
Here is a good overview article I found for those of you who have a deep interest in the automotive industry; for those who prefer a quick overview, his Wikipedia page gives you the crib notes.

Part 2:
(Importing into the US)
I'm sure everyone is aware of the shortages in all stores and have heard about the backups in the ports for the ships that are sitting stagnant. The news has been discussing that Florida is encouraging ships stuck in California ports to reroute through the Panama Canal, up to Florida ports in order to unload quicker. One major issue is the size of the Panama Canal for larger ships, and also does the ship find a business case to use the fuel to travel all that way to unload earlier. I have heard other crazy import stories from my colleagues a couple months ago where a train coming from western Canada into the US was halted for 1 week due to the oil pipeline protesters were blocking the railroad.
Does anyone else have a crazy import work-around or blockage that you never thought you would have to deal with?

Part4:
This is a fun discussion that is meant to expand our thinking about products and services in a global context. Find a product that you find to be particularly interesting, and share something to represent it in your forum post, like a website link, a photo and description, a video, etc. Explain why this product or service is interesting to you, and couch how you could explain its existence, whether successful or not, in an international marketing context. For example, you can employ Hofstede's dimensions, Hall's contexts, or Cultural Materialism to explain something that is culture bound.
This is a Q&A style forum. You will need to make a post in order to see other posts (note there is a 15 minute delay usually and you must refresh). Please also respond to at least one other post for full credit.

Article above ^.Yahoo is the latest U.S.-based tech company to stop offering its services in China, where the government's strict control over the internet forces businesses to censor certain information that Beijing has deemed subversive.
Part7:
(EV's and Autonomous Vehicles: Go a Layer Deeper)
Forgive me, its a bit off Marketing as a topic, but given our speakers focus on some of these items I thought it would be nice to share as some supplemental knowledge or ideas.
So as I have had allot of exposure to EV's and Autonomous Vehicles through my work and education I thought of two links that are more of a related FYI.
As discussed with the different level Autonomous Vehicles, those pesky level 3 vehicles would take over and make all the decisions for the driver. As such this leads to a moral quandary that a programmer has to answer: What is the best decision in a worst case scenario? Anyone familiar with the Trolley problem will know what this is immediately, but its interesting to go through.

As related to marketing, this will be a huge part of getting people to adopt the technology. If they cannot trust it to make the right decisions for us, can we trust it at all?
Another adoption issue is that whole range anxiety. If you may have noticed another post I made, I would have loved to see some sort of wireless charging method for BEV's, ideally something that gets laid in place on our existing infrastructure of roads and parking lots. This is old video (2014) and there is some debate surrounding the implementation of the concept, (The project is still seemingly alive, but its status doesn't seem to be all that clear) but the concept itself is awesome. Take the time to watch the whole video and if you do not make the connection, this type of infrastructure would be ideal for implementing smart cities and autonomous vehicles.
