I have to create this project for Resid Energy Effic & Sustain its called The New Judson -REScheck Analysis update and here is the instruction for it
Please open the file you saved for the Judson, and make the appropriate changes to the assemblies and R-values/U values/SHGC. No need to re-calculate area. This will hopefully be a fairly quick exercise for you. In all honesty, I actually hope its a little bit fun? In the world of green materials and energy efficiency, we rarely get the opportunity to get quantitative feedback on our designs.
This is one of the greatest challenges we face in the realm of environmental design. How do we tell a home owner that paying an additional 10% up front for ICFs will be worth it in the long run? Believe it or not, its getting easier. Many of the people who have used the materials you folks have researched are literally willing to share their gas bills with the rest of the world. Its truly becoming a team effort!
This unit contain 2 basic assignments. (Also clarified below in assignments).
- Evaluate the energy efficient improvements youve made to the house. (send me the official results)
- Head to the discussion board, and in a brief paragraph, describe your strategy for improving the Judson. Please add to this paragraph the %improvement you calculated from Res-Check.
Objectives
Show an improvementt to the Judson by using the web based software Res-Check
2. Briefly explain your strategy to the class through the discussion board
Discussion Question
Add a brief paragraph to the discussion board Final Strategy, explaining your solution for making improvements to the Judson. In this paragraph, you should list in some fashion the materials you have selected to remove or update from the 1940s version of the Judson, and identify the new or renovation materials. The details can be fairly brief. In fact, a numbered or bulleted approach is more than appropriate. For example:
- Add 1 rigid insulation to the basement slab (R3)
- Eliminate the concrete foundation wall and exterior wood frame wall in exchange for ICF forms (R-38)
- Update all windows to triple glazed Low-e. (U value = .30) (SHGC= .20)
- Add 6 of spray foam insulation to a new more efficient energy truss. (R-36)
- Save existing tub and have re-glazed. (Re-use better than neweven if the new product is green?)
- Compliance report: Initial failed by 307%. New failed by 28%...or passed by 20% (Be prepared, the changes you make might not help this building pass. You are not required to create a passing building)
Assignment
This unit contain 2 basic assignments.
- Evaluate the energy efficient improvements youve made to the house. (send me the official results)
Using the example in the discussion board section above, you might make the following changes.
- Change the foundation type and R-Value from un-insulated concrete to ICF
- Eliminate the rim board (calculated as a short wall)
- Change the wall type and R value from un-insulated wood frame to ICF
- Change the ceilings R-Value
- Change the type of window, and both U values and SHGC values
