The question is whether Uber is capitalism or socialism, before. we answer this first we need to find out what Uber is. Uber Technologies Incorporated is an American Multinational Transportation network, it developed, markets and operates the Uber mobile application, connecting its partners or drivers with people looking for a ride. It started as an app to request premium black cars in a few metropolitan areas.(https://www.uber.com/our-story/, n.d.)
You have to ask what is socialism. Socialism is defined by Websters dictionary as a way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies.(http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism, n.d.)Since the company of Uber is a publicly traded company and not owned by the government it doesnt meet the requirements set up by the definition.
Is this company a capitalistic venture? What is capitalism? Capitalism is defined as way of organizing an economy so that the things that are used to make and transport products are owned by individual people.(http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/capitalism, n.d.)This company is owned by individual people and companies so it does meet the parameters set up by the definition.
A lot of people look at capitalism a say that for it to work the bigger fish eats the smaller fish but in reality it is the better fish eats the worse fish. It is very Darwinian in that it is survival of the fittest forcing each new organization to learn and adapt from their competitors. Those that adapt the best survive the longest. Ubers has adapted pretty well learning from other transportation companies. A driver or partner in their case for Uber has a far more flexible that of a traditional Taxi company, Uber allows there drives to not only pick their active hours but what destinations they want. Its one of the reasons that they are Crushing their competition in areas like New York city.(Kroft, 2015)
I do think that They found a loop hole that they are exploiting all them to circumvent the law not really breaking it. The best thing for the law to is to adapt and change regulations, in other word the law and government needs to change to keep up with the times.
