I need a response to the following:
One thing that surprised me was treating the job search as a job. Because I am changing my current career, I often find myself browsing various job options. Currently, I spend about three to five hours searching for new opportunities. I feel there are many for me to dive into and network through, so my current approach is vital. My strategies thus far have been locally networking in my community and speaking to current employees at organizations I am interested in. I lean more towards working through a local congregation as there is more camaraderie and similar interests. One thing that is crucial to me is finding an environment that matches mine. Currently, I feel like I can start tidying up my resumes and ensure that each one is tailored to an opportunity I want. I mustn't fall into a job I don't like, as it's what I've been doing for the past five years. But, while keeping this in mind, I need to be open to new opportunities, even if they may not be my most desired interest. I would need to prepare for possibilities to update my resumes and skillsets to brush up on new opportunities. I always find it beneficial to network in your community as well.
This assignment is great to get individuals thinking about what opportunities to look out for and what things may interest them. College prepares you for careers but rarely presents how to be hired. I think it's essential for classes to implement discussions or assignments like these. Additionally, utilizing UMGC resources can provide a great start to job searching. Applying these to the workplace could be to maintain connections for one's network to grow. Finding various people at work who have the same interest as you may surprise you.
