(i) Trade winds are one of the beautiful features of island life in a certain country. The following data represent total air movement in miles per day over a weather station as determined by a continuous anemometer recorder. 26 14 18 14 33 50 13 22 27 57 28 50 72 52 45 38 16 33 18 16 32 26 11 16 17 14 57 66 35 20 2 1 34 18 13 18 28 21 13 25 19 11 19 22 19 15 20 (a) Make a frequency distribution table for the data using 8 intervals (eight classes) of equal length. Include the left end point of each interval and omit the right end point. (3 marks) (b) Estimate the mode of the distribution by help of a well labeled histogram. (4 marks) (c) Estimate the interquartile range through the help of a well labeled cummulative frequency curves (Ogives). (4 marks) (ii) Fifty male subjects drank a measured amount a: (in ounces) of a medication and the concentration y (in percent) in their blood of the active ingredient was measured 30 minutes later. The sample data are summarised by the following information. n = 50, 2.: = 112.5, 2y = 4.83, Easy = 15.255, 29:2 = 356.25, 292 = 0.667 Compute the linear correlation coeicient for these sample data and interprete its meaning in the context of the problem.
