Rick is a 21-year-old male who lives in Austin, TX. He is a senior at the University of Texas at Austin. He is taking 6 courses this Spring semester and is really struggling on a couple of the courses. He noticed that the courses he does not pay a lot of attention to are slipping and a few of them are almost at a failing trend. He tends to procrastinate but generally gets good grades in school. It is just past Spring Break and he knows he needs to pick up his performance to do better in the courses he is slacking. A couple of things are occupying his mind though, since he is projected to graduate in the Fall. One is that he wants to go to graduate school but is not sure if he has the qualifications to make it into the program he wants. He has been talking to his advisor and is trying to position himself in the right place to be a more appealing applicant. Another thing that is on his mind is his relationship with his girlfriend. With the impending graduation, both of them have been arguing about their relationship's future plans. Rick has his sights set on a few programs in the state. However, Erica, Rick's girlfriend, wants to move to New York to try and push her modeling career that is just taking off. Rick is willing to try the long-distance relationship idea, but Erica is not. This has led to a lot of tension in the relationship and Rick feels himself becoming more distant. At the same time, Rick has not been getting much sleep and is worried this might be affecting his performance at work. He is a work-study for the Financial Department at UT. Most of the time, the workload requires responses as quick as possible. Rick has not been producing at the same rate he used to, and his boss is noticing the lack in production. They have had a couple of discussions about it and it might affect his ability to get reassigned to this position. Meaning, he may have to try and find another work-study position. Rick has also not been eating healthily and noticed he has gained a few pounds over the past few weeks, especially during spring break. Rick wants to do better in school, work, and his relationship but does not trying to change anything in his routine.
