1. Identify your career plans, including factors such as pay, travel for work, educational needs, number of hours worked per week, when you plan to retire, etc
2. Identify your personal goals/responsibilities, such as children, a spouse/ significant other, care for aging or sick relatives, personal travel, etc.
3. Consider how these plan match up and where they are at odds. Does the timing for your personal life match up with your career progression?
4. Do you have to consider someone else's career when you choose your job?
5. Are you willing to move geographic locations
6. How much flexibility do you anticipate needing in your career?
7. Are their life events that would prevent you from being able to work long hours or travel? or vice versa?
8. Consider all aspect of your ideal future work/family life, considering how you will achieve "balance".
