III.22 Predicting the winner. There are eight teams in the Eastern Division of the National Hockey League. Here's one set of personal probabilities for next year's Eastern Division champion: The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Toronto Maple Leafs have probability 0.3 of winning. The Ottawa Senators, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Florida Panthers, have no chance. That leaves three teams. The Boston Bruins, and the Montreal Canadiens both have the same probability of winning, but that probability is one-half that of the Buffalo Sabres.
