In conducting my needs analysis what surprised me most was how much I believe a mentorship program could benefit my organization. In the beginning stages, I was not sure if this would be something my company would want to utilize, but as I have started creating the process, I now believe this is something I truly want to push for. For me, I am not ready to move up to a management position because I love working with my high school students and helping them reach their collegiate dream school. However, I want to be in a leadership role so I can help train, develop, and support my peers. In the creation of this mentorship program, I will get to have the best of both worlds because I get to stay in my current position but utilize the skills, I have gained from my leadership program. This will help not only me, but hopefully many of my coworkers to reach these goals and grow in their role with GCU. "A study from Moving Ahead found that 87 percent of mentors and mentees feel empowered by their mentoring relationships and have developed greater confidence" (Vozza, 2022, p1). It goes to show, that this type of relationship benefits everyone involved and can help my organization to reach their goals and retain employees.
I believe that no new insights were necessarily formed, but I am realizing how much will need to go into the program to make it fluid for the organization. I think this project is a huge innovation that will require a lot of consideration for my past experiences with the organization and the knowledge I have gained in my three years as an admissions counselor. I believe it has opened up more ideas that I thought possible and there are many directions I can take this project. Some things this needs analysis brought up were mostly new ways of the guide I wish to create. I want to really focus on feedback and growth. Also being able to have an initial meeting that gets the mentor and mentee relationship started and promotes a process that is easy to follow. I believe that I have a lot to think about and many ideas to consider in the formation of this project.
