In right-to-die cases, I see the primary ethical principle as autonomy. If a person is in a permanent vegetative state, do we as a society have the right to force them to stay alive until machines can no longer keep them alive, even if this is exactly the opposite of what the individual would have wanted? This could also be a slippery slope because as technology continues to advance, are we required to use it on people who prefer to die naturally?
