In the chapter, there is a discussion of ethics. The book says, "Ethics are guidelines or accepted standards about what is right or wrong. Business ethics is the application of ethical principles in a business environment. The principles apply to individual employees and to the entire organization. Many companies publish their code of ethics online. When you start work, the company may ask you to sign a statement saying you agree to follow these ethical guidelines. Many companies ask all employees to reread and sign these guidelines annually as a general reminder of expectations. Ethical guidelines are good for you and for the business. Ethical guidelines may touch on legalities and company policy, and they are listed to provide full disclosure about how the company operates."

Think about this question in terms of your own ethics: What would you do if presented with a problem that aligned with the company's ethical guidelines but was outside of your own ethical standards? This is not an idle question. There is currently much debate around individual rights and freedoms that don't align with an employers. Recent cases wherein the employees religious beliefs opposed the employers business policies have gone all the way the to US Supreme Court.
