Mandy says her husband married her because she comes from a wealthy family. He believed that Mandy's family would help him set up his business, but Mandy's family was against the marriage. He is pressuring Mandy to keep asking her parents for more money, but her parents have refused to give her any more money. This makes her husband react in a violent and abusive manner towards her. Mandy has 2 sisters and they have refused to assist her in any way as they also disapprove of Mandy's choice of partner. Her in-laws are not supportive; they blame her for any disagreements in the marriage. Mandy says her husband married her for money. Mandy completed high school but did not proceed with further studies after she got into a relationship with her husband. Currently, Mandy has no job. Mandy's husband controls their finances. Mandy has concerns about her children.
· Mandy is scared that if she complains, she might lose her children.
· "If you go and complain about me to the police, the children will be taken from us and we will never see them again." is what her spouse has said to her.
· Mandy has tried talking to a friend but was advised on how to be a better wife.
· Mandy does not feel like she is a good wife because she burns her cooking and can't seem to keep the house clean.
· Her in-laws are not supportive; they blame her for any disagreements in the marriage.
· It has recently dawned on her, that her husband married her for money.
· Her husband has used up all the money she had, to start up a business.
· He is now pressuring her to keep asking her parents for more money, but they have refused to send more money to Mandy.
· This makes her husband react in a violent and abusive manner towards her. He controls all the finances.
· Mandy does not have access to their joint bank account as her husband gives her cash for shopping.
· He has also seized her mobile phone.
· She has concerns about her children as they have witnessed the violence.
· She has two children 8 years (Carl) and 4 years (Lilly)
· She is pregnant but is scared to tell her husband.
· Today, Carl is at school and Lilly is in a friend's house.
