In the state of Louisiana, students' rights include freedom of speech, right to receive a freeeducation and right to privacy. Students who are a part of the LGBT community share the same rights and law regulations as other students, including the laws against discrimination or bullying. Due to the nature of the community, these students usually experience discrimination based on the sexual orientation or identity. Title IX of the United States Education Amendments of 1972, provides some protections and support to students facing bullying or discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. This law prohibits discrimination where a student is mistreated for being sex or gender nonconforming, where the student faces discrimination for not subscribing to the stereotypical notions of femininity or masculinity. Students also have the right to be called by the gender pronouns that they specify and dress specific to their gender identity, no matter the sex they were assigned at birth. On a state level Louisiana recently passed House Bill 122. This law forbids teachers from discussing of gender and sexual orientation in Louisiana's K-12 public schools
