In the Us many of the science research projects are reffered to as "skunk works". The idea originated at US aircraft manufacturer Lockheed in 1943, when they had to bring a new airplane to market in record time. "skunk works' are now widley used by coorperations world wide. it is a small loosely structured group of people who work on a project usually in involving a radical innovation. The group is isolated from the main organization and operating autonomously.
