In this case study, Mark allows his sister, Jeanne, to borrow money he doesn't have. Analyze this case in terms of forgiveness. Everyone in my family is stupid about money. Some of us are more stupid than others. I've been trying to make things better and slowly but surely I'm working my way out of debt. My sister came to me two years ago and asked to borrow some money. She was desperate. She thought I could just take a loan against a credit card. I refused. I knew my wife would be furious if she knew I had lent the money as my sister already owes us thousands of dollars. She wouldn't let up. She actually came to my office to talk to me so my wife wouldn't know about it, and wouldn't leave. She finally convinced me to take out a load through one of those pay-advance places that charges an enormous amount of interest. She promised me she would pay it back. Of course, she didn't. I had to take a loan from my retirement account to pay it back because the interest accumulated faster than I could pay it off. Naturally, my wife found out about it and she was furious, as I knew she would be. I am like the comic character, Charlie Brown, when he listens to Lucy promise him that she'll hold the ball in place so he can kick it. She always pulls it away at the last moment and he winds up on the ground. I'm looking up at the sky wondering if I can ever trust her again, much less recover such a large amount of money. It really set my plans to retire debt back.

1. Apply the steps of forgiveness to this situation and describe what Mark must do at each step if he is to truly forgive her.

2. Explain how he might forgive her but not forget the incident and change the nature of their sibling relationship.
