In this unit, you learned how to perform chi-squared tests for categorical data.This type of test can be useful in many real-world applications.Even Bible scholars can use these types of tests!

For example, there are several places in the old testament where a census is taken of the nation of Israel and we see the number of men in each of the twelve tribes of Israel.These lists can seem boring and not very useful at first, but they can also help us to see how the nation of Israel is changing over time.

For example, in Numbers 1, "on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt," (verse 1) God commanded that a census be taken of all the people.In the remainder of Numbers 1, we see the list of the tribes and their numbers.

And again in Numbers 26, "after the plague," God again commanded that a census be taken of all the people.

For this discussion, write down the numbers for each of the 12 tribes found in Numbers 1 along with the total number for all 12 tribes (the actual numeric summary begins in verse 21).And then write down the numbers for each of the 12 tribes found in Numbers 26 along with the total number for all 12 tribes (the actual numeric summary begins in verse 7).Be sure that your lists have the tribes in the same order.Using these lists, perform a test to determine if there is a difference in the distribution of tribes for the Israelite nation at the time of Numbers 1 and at the time of Numbers 26.
