Infantastic Clinic (a fictional practice), a clinic of four OB-GYN physicians and 20 employees, is building a small new ambulatory care clinic in a new location across town. They have outgrown their current location, are quite cramped, and are going to split the practice into two equal-sized locations in order to have room to grow. They anticipate moving half of their physicians and staff (PA-Cs, CMAs, and CMAAs) to the new location across town. They anticipate seeing 40 patients per day at each location. Their office hours are from 8 am to 6 pm M-F, with lunch and meetings from 12-2pm.
You are the manager of Infantastic Clinic, leading a committee which is tasked with researching and recommending new computer systems, software, and hardware for every area of the new location. They are starting from scratch.
In addition, your employer would like to take this opportunity to upgrade all of their software at the old office to be consistent with the new office. Both locations are about the same size and capacity.
- Define stakeholder.
- Clarify the difference between the selection phase and the implementation phase in the HIT product adoption process.
- Now that you've learned more about the HIT selection and implementation process, determine the stakeholders in the selection phase. Research who are stakeholders in the selection phase (not implementation -- know the difference) of new health information technology or software.
- Who are the stakeholders in this scenario?
- Why would you consider them stakeholders?
- Has your thought process changed about the responsibility of stakeholders since you started this project? How?
- Name and describe 4 management considerations and/or challenges in the HIT implementation phase (not the selection phase--know the difference). Examples: change resistance (and what that looks like in this scenario), or chart migration (and what that means).
- As a manager at the clinic, how would you deal with each of these HIT implementation management considerations or challenges? Address each of the four considerations or challenges separately.
