Problem:
Brgy. Klasmeyt receives tap water from River Malangsa which is contaminated by heavy metals.
Three separate effluents containing heavy metals from a metal processing plant, mining plant and sewage treatment plant join the river at different points.
Besides these industrial effluents, soil containing heavy metals is eroded due to the flow of the river which also contributes to the heavy metal pollution.
But before these mixing points of effluents and before erosion takes place, the flowrate is 30,000Ls and is safe to assume concentration of heavy metals in this portion of the river as negligible.
The concentrations of different heavy metals in the three effluents and in the soil being eroded are found in excel tab "Data" together with other necessary information.
Please be sure to check all necessary information enclosed within column N x row 30 of tab "Data"
Questions:
What is the concentration of the heavy metals before treatment in mgL? in ppm?
Is it safe to drink the water without any treatment according to the PNSDW standard? If not, why? Do you propose that we treat River Malangsa before distributing to the tap water system?
**The PNSDW of 2017 consists of standard concentrations of substances set as the safe limits for drinking water in the Philippines
Assuming a person drinks from the tap without treatment and consumes 4L per day, how much metal in grams is accumulated in the human body per year assuming these metals are not excreted?
Note:
Do not open columns/rows that are "grouped" and do not change the formula of the cells with the data already given.
You may only write a formula in the cells highlighted in yellow to answer the questions.
