It is known that many movable and non-movable fixed assets are rarely depreciated and in some circumstances are never depreciated. Your job is to advise the minister on the importance of depreciation on fixed assets and the dangers of not applying depreciation. Required (a) Define the terms depreciation and depreciable assets in accordance to the requirements of IAS 16 and explain the causes of depreciation to government fixed assets. (b) Discuss the effects of depreciation to both the assets and the financial statements (c) Identify the types of depreciation methods you know and explain to the minister which depreciation method is suitable for depreciating (earth moving equipments) heavy duty machines and why (d) Write a recommendation letter to the minister of works and supply explaining your recommendations on why government should start depreciating the fixed assets and which depreciation methods are suitable for which assets
