International tourism to regional Queensland has been severely impacted by the restrictions applied during the pandemic. With a view to returning to the arrival of international tourists, Queensland Tourism is seeking to applications for international marketing ideas to support the 'road to recovery . More than 22 million domestic and international overnight visitors came to Queensland in the year ending June 2020. However, that number includes a severely impacted market for the later part of the financial year due to COVID restrictions. June 2021 short term international visitor arrivals in Queensland decreased 91.7% when compared with pre COVID levels in June 2019. To regional area of Queensland that would be part of an international marketing strategy to aid the recovery of international tourism to the region of Queensland commencing January 2024.<
