Introduction
Students have been developing a business plan throughout the Entertainment Business Masters degree program. The purpose of this class is to not only teach students about legal issues in the sports industry but also how to apply those legal principles to the students own business plan. In this assignment, students will provide a description of the business plan, an analysis of potential legal issues faced by the business, and relevant industry lawsuits based on these issues. This assignment will provide the basis for the Research Paper due in Week 4.
Objectives
- Explain the students business plan.
- Determine potential legal issues in the students business plan.
- Evaluate solutions to mitigate or eliminate legal issues in the students business plan.
- Research industry lawsuits relevant to the legal issues in the students business plan.
Instructions
1. Include a detailed description of your business plan, in at least three (3) paragraphs.
2. Determine five (5) legal issues (liabilities) that may apply to your business. Define each of these issues in one or two sentences. Then explain, in two (2) to three (3) sentences, how your business might be prone to each of these issues. Keep in mind that two (2) of these issues will be included in your research paper.
3. For each legal issue (liability) you chose above, find one actual court case (i.e. a written opinion by a judge deciding the outcome of a lawsuit) directly relevant to the topic. You should find a case on point- one that contains facts and a legal issue as close to your situation as possible. Then summarize the case, including the facts, legal claim, and conclusion, in three (3) to four (4) sentences. For each case, be sure to include the case name, court, and year of the decision.
BEST PRACTICES FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT
Make sure your case was decided in the United States court system, or the law and decision may not be relevant. You should first look for cases within the same industry as your business. Cite any quotes or paraphrasing you use from outside sources, in APA format, even if your source is the court case you are summarizing.
Start your research with Google, but find your court cases in a database like Nexis Uni, accessible via FullSail One.
