Japan's Linear Chuo Shinkansen, officially called the Linear Chuo Shinkansen, can carry 286 kilometers of passengers in about 40 minutes from Tokyo to Nagoya. Trains on this line travel at approximately 313 mph and are based on the country's world-leading superconducting magnetic levitation (magnetic levitation) system. The new line runs underground for about 86% of its length. This requires the construction of a large tunnel. Before construction on extending the line to Osaka proceeds, the project is expected to be completed by 2027.
