Kline, Martin and Strugg got together to "do drugs." Kline had illegally obtained Phenobarbital tablets and the three shared them. Strugg seemed unable to get high on them, so he asked for more, which Kline readily supplied. Later in the evening, after taking a total of 52 tablets, Strugg lapsed into unconsciousness.
