The pay disparity is due to several reasons, one of the main ones being the old stereotypes based on the archetype of the man as the breadwinner of the family. Women are usually hired at a lower salary than men, and the gap worsens in successive stages. A Catalyst study reveals that, on average, in their first job, the annual compensation of women with a master's degree in business administration from leading universities in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia is US$4,600. to that of men with the same. The data also indicate that the difference becomes much more acute after three years, and that in Africa and Latin America this figure shoots up to represent no less than 36 percent of the salary difference with respect to men. 1.
