Law 12 - PERSUASIVE ESSAY

Question: Is decriminalization of the possession of illicit drugs the best way to tackle drug abuse and addiction in Canada, or should the laws be left unchanged?

Have to research and take a position on this question and have to choose the three main reasons why position is the right one for the government to follow. Now have to use these three reasons to convince reader to agree with you.

AN INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH containing:

A thesis statement: Your thesis is your opinion on this issue. It should briefly let your reader know the position are taking. Should have at least three pieces of information that back up position. Now use them to construct a statement that will give reader a brief overview of what the essay will be about.

The Hook: This usually comes before thesis statement. The hook is used to draw people's interest, so they will want to understand point of view on this issue. Might want to make a dramatic statement on the illicit drug issue, to attract reader's attention.

BODY PARAGRAPH 1

In this paragraph, topic sentence will introduce the first reason for the position you are taking. So, begin with a sentence which lets reader know my opinion. This should be followed by two or three points or examples, which you will use to back up the claim have made in topic sentence.

BODY PARAGRAPH 2

In this paragraph, your topic sentence will introduce the second reason for position. So, begin with a sentence which lets reader know your opinion. This should be followed by two or three points or examples, which you will use to back up the claim you have made in your topic sentence.

BODY PARAGRAPH 3

In this paragraph, topic sentence will introduce the third reason for your position. So, begin with a sentence which lets reader know your opinion. This should be followed by two or three points or examples, which you will use to back up the claim you have made in your topic sentence.

A CONCLUDING PARAGRAPH

This paragraph sums up the points you have made in your three body paragraphs and provides conclusion as to why your position on this issue should be valued. Conclusion should summarise the points have already made, but no new information should be added here.
