Your assignment:

You must write two pages, double spaced, using Arial 11 pt. font. You should print on the front AND back (REMEMBER: save the trees = save the earth = save your own life!) and bring to class next Thursday 11/12.

You can select to write about TWO different role models (one page each) OR just ONE role mode (two pages). The goal is to do some basic research about someone you can discuss with interviewers during your future job interviews. SO, your selection is critical! Who you should will hopefully allow you to connect with the interviewer and help you create THE STORY OF YOU. Western people LOVE STORIES. We like people who are driven by passion for what they want to do. We like to see people making their dreams come true. So, BE CREATIVE: figure out a powerful story of this role model. The best stories are those that also connect to the other parts of THE STORY OF YOU. WHY you want to get into hospitality...why you want to move to ___ country....why you want to be a chef...why you want to be a hotelier... why you want to travel the world, etc... Talk about the people who inspired you. Remember, in the West typically we talk about role models from kindergarten on. We dress up as famous people for Halloween every year. :) We LOVE role models and have dozens of them. We read biographies of them in school. It is part of our culture. Now, many of you don't really have anyone that connects to your current goals. It is time to do some research and find some people. Your future depends on it. There are so many incredible people in the world, that can be true role models!

I will send some suggestions for each category this weekend. But they will be really for those who want to move to Western countries. If you want to stay in Korea or return home, you should ideally select someone from your own country!

Suggestion: THINK LIKE YOUR FUTURE INTERVIEWER. What do they want to hear? What will help them connect to you? What will make you DIFFERENT than others also? How can you show them your passion for service and making people happy? Your passion for ___ job?

In hospitality, any role model should be someone who LOVES to make others happy. It ultimately comes down to having a love of pleasing others. Culinary arts and hotelier jobs are different, so you should focus on yours specifically If you pick someone else, make sure they are NOT political and also NOT religious. If you aren't sure where you want to go, I would suggest selecting two options.

TIP: If I were you, I would pick a person who has written a book or has a movie. You can mention this and bring it up during the discussion.

What do you need to discuss?

Half of your assignment should contain a biography (life story) of the person, and the other half should discuss WHY this person is your role model and HOW this person has impacted your life. MAKE UP A GOOD STORY for this part!
