Logistics Managers need to be aware of the costs of shipping, and as such, they attempt to ensure that shipping is as efficient as it can be. With this in mind, let us see how we would make a shipment from Asia to London Ontario, using shipping containers.
Your challenge is to take the information below and translate it into the number of shipping containers required to ship 3 different products from Asia to London, Ontario. There is no need to develop routing, as it will be shipped via Ocean Carrier, Rail Carrier and Truck Carrier.
Here is what we are shipping:
- 3 products in different size boxes
- Box A = 12" x 12" x 12" = 1 cubic foot
- Box B = 12" x 10" x 24" = 1.667 cubic feet
- Box C = 24" x 24" x 24" = 8 cubic feet
- There are 10,000 boxes in total
- Box A = 4,000
- Box B = 3,500
- Box C = 2,500
Products can be mixed in the containers.
A standard 40 foot container holds 2,360 cubic feet of product.
ASSIGNMENT:
Determine how many cubic feet of each product (box a, b, and c) needs to be shipped in total.
Determine how many containers will be required to ship this order.
Show how you developed your reasoning.
