Management Accounting System (MAS)If management accountants are to support managers, and more specifically provide strategic support, we need to ensure that our accounting systems are robust and capable. Supporting managers requires an understanding of:- What managers do and the decisions they make;- What information they require; and- How to capture, analyze and transform organizational data into the appropriate information.

Hence, a management accounting system (MAS) is defined as the organized process or system that identifies, collects, processes and communicates financial (and relevant non-financial) information. The MAS is a small part or subset of the overall management information system (MIS) of an organization. The MIS is an integrated system that combines all of the organizational areas, including sales/marketing production, accounting, human resources, logistics and other parts of an organization. If is important that the MAS is properly integrated into the overall MIS so that data and information is easily accessible and useful (Gelinas & Sutton, 2002).Required:Conduct research in the area of MAS and chose an organization of your choice as a case study to demonstrate the role of MAS in helping managers create, manage and protect value.
