Project #3 Submit Completed Project through Blackboard Due 3/10 11:59 PM

You may work with others, but you must submit your own work and conduct your own survey.

It is time for you to design a survey of your very own. You should make the topic of the survey something you find interesting, and design the survey so that the results can be summarized and studied using a Venn diagram with three sets. You will accomplish this by asking three separate yes/no questions.

For example: Are you taking a History course? Yes/No,

Are you taking a Psychology course? Yes/No,

Are you taking an English course? Yes/No

Or

Do you speak Spanish? Yes/No

Do you speak French? Yes/No

Do you speak Japanese? Yes/No

This can be a survey by observation if you prefer to record easily observable traits rather than ask people to complete a survey. (For example: Wearing a jacket Yes/No, Carrying an umbrella Yes/No, Talking on cell phone Yes/No)

Once you have designed, written, and conducted your survey, organize the results with a Venn diagram, then write a report on your findings. Don't just include the raw numbersthe most important part of a survey is often summarizing and interpreting the meaning of survey results. You may want to keep this requirement in mind when designing your surveyit is pretty hard to write an intelligent interpretation if the questions are totally unconnected.

  1. (5 points) Goal of Survey: What are you trying to find out through this survey?

  1. (10 points) Survey questions:

  1. (10 points) Attach the results of your survey. Please use numbers for your participants (no names!)

Total number of survey participants (must be at least 20):_____

  1. (20 points) Organize your results using a Venn Diagram. You must label the 3 circles and include a number in each region, even if that region is a zero. (There are 8 regions!)

You may either use text boxes and enter the numbers into this Venn diagram or draw your own on paper/print this out and write on it and scan it back in.

  1. (5 points each) Determine the number of people who fit into the shaded region then write one sentence explaining what that region means. Here are some examples of sentences

7 people are taking a History course and an English course.

13 people are taking an English course or a Psychology course.

2 people are taking a History course, an English course and a Psychology course (all three).

8 people are taking a History course.

6 people are taking a Psychology course, but not a History or English course (Psychology only).

Your sentences should not be longer nor more complicated then these examples.

Region: Sentence:

a)

b)

c)

d)

e)

f)

  1. (10 points)Writing a paragraph interpreting the results of your survey. Did you accomplish the Goal of your survey (Question 1)?

  1. (10 points) If you could start over again, what would you change about your survey to get more/different information?

  1. (5 points) What question(s) would you ask if you were to create a follow up survey to the same participants?
