material b (MX) GD82 P obs B H Material 1 mm 375 mm AS The tube AB made of material 1 has a cross- sectional area of 140 mm and is fitted with a plug at A. The tube is attached at B to a rigid plate that is itself attached at C to the bottom of a cylinder made of material 2 with a cross- sectional area of 250 mm. The cylinder is then hung from a support at D. (Figure shows cross section view of the cylinder) To close the cylinder, the plug must move down through 1 mm. Determine the force P that needs to be applied. For material 1: The young's modulus E1 in GPa = the last 2 digits of your SBU ID. For material 2, take E2 = of E1 If both last digits of your SBU ID are zero, then take E1 = 60 GPa, and E2=30 GPa EAB = 105 GP EQ = 72 GPa.
