Meeting Mary and John notes 19 non vows mir! out of anol bns sorsom od wolle o Case Study - Lucy is bas hd bluce sw bne mwob is vic Mary and her husband John were an attractive, well dressed couple in their early forties when they attended their first appointment with me. Mary did most of the talking. She said her fourteen-year-old daughter, Lucy, was communicating online with a man named Sam in another country who was in his late thirties. She said she was shocked when she found the romantic messages they'd exchanged on her daughter's computer. John took matters into his own hands by using a hammer to destroy Lucy's computer in front of her, then took it to the trash. He also made sure Lucy was watching when he put a lock on the door of the master bedroom, which was the only room in their house that still had a computer. blo rbum e ns) ziri ni no log During our fifty-minute session, Mary remained focused on the man named Sam, whom she viewed as the one totally responsible for the online relationship her daughter was having. Her face lit up and she talked louder when she said, "We have to create Lucy's Law, something that will stop men like him." I asked her to tell me more about Lucy. Before she said anything, I watched John roll his eyes, shake his head and look at the floor. Mary said, "I never had many problems with her until now. She gets goods grades and does her chores." John's head was still moving slowly from side to side. I asked John to tell me how he views his daughter. Immediately, he said, "She's my stepdaughter. I've only known her for four years." "Where is her biological father?" I asked. Mary answered, "We divorced when Lucy was five." "Does Lucy spend time with him?" "He used to see her once in a while, but he disappeared a few years ago and we don't know where he is," Mary replied. "He owes a lot of back child support, but to tell you the truth, I think we're better off without him and his money. I told Mary not to chase after his dead ass," John said. "But, he's not the problem," Mary stated. "We have to establish Lucy's Law so we can stop perverts." betuorla ("nam es mont svol "It will help me to know more about you," I said while looking at Mary. "I grew up in Pennsylvania. I'm the oldest of three. It was a normal childhood. Dad worked. Mom stayed home and took care of us." "How would you describe yourself as a child?" I asked. "I was a good kid, mostly an A student, but when I was young we didn't have computers so we didn't need Lucy's Law." "Did your parents praise you?" I asked. "Not my mother. I never did anything that was good enough for her." "Bingo!" I thought to myself. There is the source of the shame that's driving Mary to want to become famous by creating Lucy's Law. I suggested that they make an appointment for Lucy to see me. They complied with my request. The following week, Mary sat in our waiting area while I talked with Lucy. Meeting with Lucy Lucy had several visible tattoos and piercings. Her hair was long and straight and she wore black lipstick and nail polish. She was dressed in tight black pants and a blue jean jacket. I was pleasantly surprised by her eagerness to talk to me and her good eye contact. For me, Lucy filled in the blanks. She said she still misses her Dad and life got worse after her mother met John because now they always have to do what John wants to do. She talked about a recent incident when the three of them went to the mall and her mother and John walked way ahead of her making her feel like they did not want to be seen with her. I asked her about Sam and she said she's in love with him, she lives to read his emails and she's not going
