(=30% of Final Grade) Purpose: The purpose of this project is to demonstrate that you have a good understanding of the processes of project management, how to initiate, plan, execute and control a project using project management tools in an organizational setting. In teams of 5 - 7 members students will choose a project to present upon. Deliverables: 1. Due on Sept 22, 2016: original copy of a 2-3 pages signed team contract clarifying roles, penalties for non-performing students and contact info of each team member and team meeting schedule. Team contract will only be accepted if all team members have signed the contract (10% of Project Grade). The contract must include a clause that specifies that the penalty for any non-performing team members is zero marks. The contract must include a Gantt chart showing what the team will do each week until the end of the project. This Gantt chart is for the weekly team performance. 2. Due on Sept 22, 2016: a ONE page final project proposal for approval in class describing the final project, project title, place/organization for project to be implemented and project justification. All the team members' names should be stated. The professor will sign the proposal for approval (10% of Project Grade). 3. Due by midnight NOV 30, 2016: an e-copy of the final presentation to be submitted on SLATE. (10% of Project Grade) 4. Due at the beginning of class at 8:00 a.m. on DEC 1, 2016: a hard copy of the print out of the presentation. The group Presentation. (70% of Project Grade) The Delivery Requirements for the Final Presentation: Presentation skills: time management and time control, posture, voice, body language, contrast and design, slide numbers, message at beginning and end, team work, signal transfer of roles, signal beginning and end. All team members must present the work equally, any team member that does not present will get no marks. Submit to the professor a print out of the presentation at beginning of class (6 slides per sheet, stapled) Appropriate business attire No hand written work will be accepted. No MS Project files, output or work will be accepted. If any work presented is not clear and not readable by the professor, and if the font size used in the power point is too small, no marks will be given to that part of the work. 1 The Content Requirements for the Presentation: Executive summary: a summary of all the important findings and facts about the project such as: total budget, duration, major risks, primary stakeholders, resources etc. Charter: describe the elements of the project charter including: o Business Case: justification of project (as one paragraph). o Objectives: using SMART format o Budget, high level o Timeline o Constraints: any limitations o Assumptions: factors that are considered to be true for project purposes Stakeholders Analysis Matrix: Identify all the stakeholders and show the categorization, role of each and the level of influence and interest on the project, show the management strategies for each stakeholder. Work Breakdown Structure: a detailed, complete and numbered decomposition of project components. (Using the org Chart Format down to level 5 decomposition, a tabular format will not be accepted). Network Diagram and Critical Path: show the network diagram and highlight the critical path using a red colour. Use the two pass method. The number of activities must be between 25 - 30 activities and all the information must be readable during the presentation. Use the ES, EF, LS, LF legend and show the Slack for each activity. Required Human & Other Resources: list the necessary project resources: any non-financial (material, equipment, facilities). Use a resource histogram for man hours needed, Financial resources, The Budget and S-Curve: show the project budget including the Contingency Reserve (CR) and Management Reserve (MR), you need to have more than 10 items in the budget. Show your S-Curve for the project budget. Use pie charts. Communications Matrix: Who needs what information, when, how, who will send it and in what format? Gantt & Milestones Chart: draw a Gantt chart for the project activities showing all the milestones as diamond shapes. Status Report (if relevant): if the project is under completion, what is the status of activities, % completion. Variance Analysis (if relevant): if the project is under implementation, is the project doing well or not? What are CPI and SPI? What are CV and SV? Quality Metrics: how will you measure quality and customer satisfaction? Risk Register: Major risks (positive and negative) assessment and mitigation strategies. Show all the EMV calculations. Conclusions: what are the conclusions from this project? Recommendations: what are the recommendations? IMPORTANT: Any tables, lists, matrices must include at least ten items in them. 2 Assignment Rubric: The marking scheme for EACH section is as follows as a percentage of full marks for that section: >80% - all points covered in professional, concise, proper professional Canadian English (with proper grammar/spelling), in a manner that convincingly and completely addresses the assignment questions/purpose 70-80% - minor points missing and/or incomplete and/or improper language in a manner that partially addresses the assignment questions/purpose 50-70% - significant points missing and/or incomplete and/or improper language and or unquantifiable regarding the assignment questions/purpose <40% - more than half the points missing and/or incomplete and/or improper and or unquantifiable 0 - more than 75% of the points missing and/or incomplete and/or improper and or unquantifiable 10% deduction for EACH assignment requirement not met. The wedding date is Mid-March 2015, budget is $30,000.00. 2 Stag & Doe - you are the best man/woman, and your friend is taking a 4 week honeymoon in Eastern Europe (e.g. Poland, Lithuania, Hungary, etc.) and you would like to raise $7000 towards the $10000 cost for the trip. The stag/doe is Mid-March 2015, stag/doe costs $3000. 3 4 Beach Volleyball Tournament - your volleyball team is hosting the 10th Annual GBSA cross-Ontario under 30 amateur tournament in Port Elgin. The weekend chosen is second weekend of March 2015, the total tournament cost is $30,000 for the 15 teams. Pacific backpacking trip - when you graduate you are going on an 8 week tour of the Pacific area (e.g. Peru, China, NZ, etc.) that could be 'the trip' of your life (you arrange it all yourself, seeing World Heritage & UNESCO Biosphere areas for example). The trip starts Mid-March 2015, costing $10,000; but $7000 of which is prepaid over months. 3 5 You are responsible for staffing the new plant with 50 line workers, 10 trades people, 5 engineers, and 3 supervisors to run the plant. It opens in 14 weeks, top quality product is to be shipped in 16 weeks. 6 Your company consistently loses out to Rogers on job offers to candidates. You have promised a new generation of one of your products to your customers. You need to attract and hire 10 new software engineers and 5 graphic designers over the next 4 months. 7 One of your major company products is losing ground to a competitor based solely on price. To fight this, a change in business model is required so it's decided to off-shore all software maintenance work to India, lowing the amount of work at your facility. You need to provide early retirements for 5 people and layoff 10 others over the next 4 months. 8 Lost time % due to sickness has tripled over the past few years as the company has aggressively grown. The data (that is legally available to a self-insured company) seems to indicate that mental health issues are becoming prevalent.
