MGMT 5949 - International Human Resource Management - Assignment #1 guidelines *Please read the whole document carefully* As a consultant specializing in global HRM, you are helping a CEO who wants to expand his business globally. He has an ambitiously long list of countries (26) in which he wants to do the business in coming years. However, he admits that his business experience is limited to his home country. Therefore, he has asked for your help. For your first assignment, he asked you to make a brief country profile report that addresses the country XXX (the country you are assigned in Week 1 tutorial). The report needs to have two major sections: Part 1. An overview of the national cultural environment of your allotted country, with reference to the cultural frameworks discussed in the course. Part 2. Reflection on how the cultural environment outlined in the first part of your assignment MIGHT impact upon HR functions and practices. (i.e. use critical thinking to give examples of how you think the culture of your allocated country might affect the way an organisation should approach the various aspects of HR - Performance Management, Training and Development, Reward, Staffing etc)
The allocation of your country will be made in a random manner in the Week 1 tutorial. If for any reason you miss the tutorial, it is important you contact your tutor immediately so that you can be allocated a country. Whenever appropriate, use the concepts and frameworks presented in the textbook or supplementary reading provided on Moodle or elsewhere. For instance, some of the ideas about national culture in Chapter 2 of the core textbook will be useful in addressing Part 1. Additionally, you should apply the frameworks outlined in Lecture 2 where appropriate. You should also use other peer-reviewed materials (e.g. journal articles/books) to support your argument. Include a minimum of 6 citations from these sources. These sources should be recent (last 3-5 years) and from high quality journals such as the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS) and The International Journal of Human Resource Management (IJHRM). Try to offer insights in Part 2 that are based on your analysis of your country's culture in Part 1. Whenever possible, use academic sources to support your overview in Part 1 and to support your definitions of HR functions and practices in Part 2.
Your citations and reference list need to conform to the APA 7th Edition referencing style. If you exceed the uppermost word limit, you will be penalised.
