Teamwork takes practice. Working on an effective team means being empathetic to different opinions, communication styles, motivations, personalities, and temperaments. Most of your software development and IT work will happen in a team of one kind or another, so the more practice you can get at it, the better prepared you'll be.

This does not mean you will work exclusively alongside others all day long. In fact, technology work is characterized by long periods of solo endeavor punctuated by regular and dynamic interactions with peers and clients. Effective teams develop a cadence or "regular stride" as they forge ahead through project work. When difficult problems come up, the team pulls together and pools its collective talent and experience. This happens often in design work, since there is usually a lot of uncertainty and opportunity for raw creativity. We'll take on a sample design project to gain firsthand experience working in a team setting.
