Miika and Riikka Virtanen recently renovated their house to have a complete self-heating system for all seasons. Before the renovation, the house relied on a TES tank system coupled with a solar thermal collector. After the renovation, they added a modern solar collector coupled with an underground latent heat storage tank and a heat pump that takes heat from the latent heat into the house. Mr and Mrs Virtanen intend to use the latent heat storage system during seasons when the old system is not in use. As a friend of the couple, they provide you with a schematic of their heating system (shown in the figure below) and require your assistant to choose a PCM for their latent heat storage system. 1.
