Most students want to have a car at college, but for three very good reasons, I'm not one of them. 2First, there is the cost of the car itself. 3A new car can cost as much as the down payment on a house. 4Even if you buy a used car, you have to spend several thousand dollars to get one that's reliable. 5Then, too, there is the cost of maintaining a car. 6Gas is very expensive, and the older a car is, the more repairs it requires. 7Plus there is the cost of insurance. 8But the most important reason not to take a car to college is the constant daily hassle. 9There are traffic jams and road construction in the summer, bad driving conditions in the winter, and the worst hassle of alllong dashfinding a parking space near campus. 10I'll take public transportation any day, thank you.
