Mentally illness denial is very common in the current healthcare industry. While some family members will agree that the patient has the condition. The patient can be in denial when diagnosed with an illness. Schizophrenia patients deny aspects of illness then others (Schizophrenia Research 2014 p 89-96). When patients evaluate themselves during clinical interview, most appear to partially accept their psychotic episode. While indicating abnormal self-functioning stem from having mental illness. That requires treatment to help cope with this illness and everyday life. Family members most often accept their condition, but some may be in denial. This can lead to a dangerous situation because they can become suicidal or ready to harm others. My argument is that the mentally ill have denial and fell to seek the correct treatment. This is another reason why mental awareness is needed to advocate for the mental ill and educate their families on what illness they were diagnosed with to seek the correct therapy. While the patient going through denial allow them to vent. This is why I'm arguing because patients and families see the conditions different from one another.

During the stages of denial do not force the illness on the patient as it will cause them to act out in ways that you can't imagine. It's shown in athletes as well according to the article the stigmatization and denial of mental illness in athletes. They are susceptible to being underdiagnosis and inadequate treatment for depression and other mental illnesses. A lower prevalence than general population. They are often overlooked for their mental illness due to them being athletes. It starts with depression and gets worst because they feel that they play sports that they don't have any problems and it ends up a lot of them does murder suicide or kill themselves. Their depression comes from being overtrained and not having anyone to lean on or have an open ear just to be heard. They have decrease sensitivity and serve mood disturbance along with irritability (Br J Sports Med. 2000 Feb; 34(1): 4-5).

During the steps of denial, you want the client to have trust in you so that they know you are there for them and not out to get them. Make sure you are okay during the process because your own mental health has had to be in a good stake. Offer the patient to mental health support groups to help them build the courage seek the appropriate help. Research shows that most mental illness have denial because its apart of the condition they are suffering from that requires therapy and medicine prescribed by a psychiatrist to help them cope in the day-to-day life like others. You must remember to showcase doing this difficult time. Eventually the patient will come to the realization that help is needed and that there is someone with an open ear and get on the correct medication to cope with stress levels from the coaches and teammates that don't suffer from this condition.

To sum up this whole paper mental illness patients be in denial and hugely with Schizophrenia because they think they are alright until they have an episode that's requires a hospital stay. The family of the patients wants to seek the correct help, but they refuse the help because their condition is getting worse and can't see it. Remember to ask them what is it that they want and need during this difficult time. Allow them to vent this is a very important part of healing and acceptance of this long journey ahead of them. Then picture yourself in their shoes this is not an easy process to acknowledge. Is denial real in mental health yes there are so many articles to back up my argument even with athletes which goes unknown for a very long time because they have support, and everyone thinks they are fine just because they're in sports. Which is why there should be some type of support group for these patients to help them realize that denial is not the correct way to go and there is something there to help them feel better and someone there to help them. Plus educate them the right way and take their medication which help them cope with this mental illness. So yes denial does goes on in the mental health world but can for sure go unknown which is not healthy this why they need support from family and friends.
