My name is Cameron Davis, and I would first like to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain my circumstances. I am writing this letter to explain what happened during my Fall 2021 semester here at The University of Mississippi.
I have endured a lot of obstacles and setbacks during this time, emotionally and physically. Over the summer, I had to undergo significant bone graft surgery. I had to have a piece of bone removed from my hip and moved to my writs. When school first started, I had to go to physical therapy sessions every Tuesday and Thursday to regain strength. It was challenging and constricting to write since this was my dominant hand. During the semester, I had to start working to keep up with the bills that my family could not help afford, and this led me to get another part-time job. It became challenging, which discouraged me a bit, but I avoided the negativity and tried to work hard to keep my grades up.
Although, the unfortunate events have been reflected in my grades, and I have fallen short of the expected standards in the University. This has been one of the best semesters here at the University, with me being out of school for a year. I excelled in my Edhe 202 class that was required this semester. In the class, we had to plan out journals each week for all our classes, and our professor checked to help us keep ahead of our assignments. I kept up with every assignment throughout the semester, making nothing lower than a B. Our final assignment was a paper on a Staircase documentary, and I passed with a perfect score. I was also offered a position as a Career Center Ambassador this semester. This was helpful because it was mandatory to do 2 hours of study hall out the week. I went to Finance tutoring that was offered in the middle of the week.
I have implemented several strategies for the spring semester to be successful. Most importantly, prioritizing weekly check-ins with professors and advisors. Next, devoting more time to tutoring for a specific class. I will register for a developmental course to equip myself with the necessary tools to succeed at the University. While my financial situation has improved, I can cut back on working and devote more time to my studies and time management.
I passionately love my school, and it is my goal to graduate from the University to honor my mother's memory, who was an educator. As the firstborn in our family, I will be the first child to receive a college degree. This will be an excellent example to my siblings as they strive to get their degrees. If you considered reinstating my financial aid for me to have the funding needed to pay for the Spring 2022 Semester, that would get me one step closer to that goal.
Thank You
Can you check my Financial Aid appeal letter. Do I need to add anything extra? Thank you for your help.
