Next, Miss Jenny reads Caps for Sale. About half way through the story, she notices that Patricia has inched over toward Emily and is leaning on her. Emily tries to move away, but there is nowhere to go. Emily interrupts, tells Patricia not to touch her, and pushes her away. Miss Jenny thanks Patricia for moving away. When the story is over, Miss Jenny reaches into a grocery sack and pulls out a variety of hats. As the children start to ask for specific hats, Patricia leaps toward the sack grabbing a large straw hat with a pink sash. Miss Jenny asks her to return to her square. Patricia returns to her square for a short time and then leaves the group. She goes over to the housekeeping center and admires herself in the mirror. Ms. Clara goes to get her to return to the group. Patricia resists slightly, but returns. Caps for Sale is read again with Miss Jenny playing the part of the salesman and the children acting as monkeys. Patricia really seems to enjoy this activity. Children get to keep their hats on for the rest of circle time. Ms Jenny tells the children to put their hats in the basket when circle time is over.
